We have already done
a lot of the “weeding out” of all of the irrelevant pads to help you with your
selection but you definitely should consider a few things.
Does my position
affect which pad I should choose? You
betcha.
If you look through the selection of shoulder pads you will notice
some are very bulky that provide more protection and some pads provide a very
minimal amount of protection. Like everything
else in lacrosse, there is a give and take when selecting. For instance, You can have maximum protection
but sacrifice mobility and can have minimum protection but maximum
mobility. Your position is a good
deciding factor. If you are playing offense you are much more
inclined to be whacked by opposing defensemen so you really want to protect
your shoulders and upper arms among other things. If you are defensemen you can normally go
with a much lighter pad since you may only take a few hits a game. This is personal preference of course, don’t
get mad at us if you play D and you sustain an injury for lack of pads!
Are some brands
better then other brands? No, people
come in all shapes and sizes and all manufacturers pads come in different shapes
and sizes as well. If you want to be
sure, you should go in to the store and try on as many as you can. Every brand tries to come out with different
technology but at the end of the day you should most concerned with the fit.
My
mom has to buy me new shoes every 6 months because I am growing so fast, what
should I do about my lacrosse pads? I am sure your mom has learned not to buy you
the $400 ’88 Air Jordans every 6 months and lacrosse pads should be treated the
same way. First of all, buy your
equipment a little big if you are growing.
The great thing about most pads is that they are highly adjustable. Second of all, if you are at the age where
you are still growing a lot you are probably not going to need pro level
padding either. Go for something mid
ranged until you have peaked in your growth.
Once you are full grown go for the good stuff, you WILL save money in
the long run.
Hopefully this clears some things up for you but as usual,
give us a call at 1(888)southswell with any more specific questions.
